Wool Garden Mulch 15kg — Bulk NZ Wool Mulch for Large Gardens & Landscaping
Wool Garden Mulch 15kg is a 100% natural, New Zealand-made garden mulch made from shredded sheep wool fibres and sheep manure. One bag covers approximately 15 square metres, making it ideal for large vegetable gardens, raised bed systems, orchard trees, landscaping projects, and anyone wanting to mulch multiple areas in one go.
What it does
Wool fibres hold up to three times their weight in water, significantly reducing watering frequency across large garden areas. As the mulch breaks down over 6–12 months, it releases nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and a wide range of micronutrients — including boron, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, sulphur, and zinc — directly into your soil as a slow-release fertiliser. Digging it into garden beds also improves soil structure, encourages beneficial microbes, and increases worm numbers for long-term soil health. The coarse wool fibres create a natural barrier that slugs and snails won't cross, providing pet-safe pest control without chemicals.
What you can use it on
Suits all garden types and scales: vegetable gardens, raised beds, orchard and fruit trees, flower borders, shrubs, hedges, and landscaping projects. Can be spread on top of soil as a mulch layer or dug directly into beds to boost soil health. Safe to use year-round in the New Zealand climate.
How to apply
Spread a 3–5cm layer around plants, keeping a small gap around stems, or dig directly into soil to improve structure and feed worm populations. Water in after applying to help fibres settle and begin retaining moisture. One 15kg bag covers approximately 15 square metres at a 3–5cm depth. Reapply or top up after 12 months.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the 15kg bag cover? Approximately 15 square metres at a 3–5cm depth, or 1kg per square metre as a general guide.
What nutrients does wool mulch contain? It provides nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium as primary nutrients, plus micronutrients including boron, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, sulphur, and zinc.
Can I dig wool mulch into the soil instead of laying it on top? Yes — digging it in improves soil structure, increases organic matter, and encourages worm activity for long-term garden health.
Does wool mulch deter slugs and snails? Yes — the coarse wool fibres are uncomfortable for soft-bodied pests to cross, acting as a physical barrier without chemicals.
Is this product made in New Zealand? Yes — sourced and made in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Is the 15kg suitable for home gardens or just landscaping? Both — it's popular with home gardeners who have large veggie patches or multiple raised beds, as well as people tackling landscaping and orchard projects.
